180 is a darts simulation game. It will appeal to both dart players and non dart players as it is extremely addictive. There are four types of games to choose from - one player championship game; two player game 101, 301 or 501; Round the Board; and Snooker, a two player game, where sections of the board represent colours.
There is no luck involved in these games - only 100% skill!
The procedure for loading a program into your Spectrum is given in your manual. Please follow these steps for loading a program.
1. Connect the ear socket of the computer to the ear socket of your tape recorder.
2. Set the volume control as per Sinclair manual.
3. Adjust the tone control to maximum.
4. Type LOAD "".
5. Start the tape recorder. The program will RUN automatically once loaded.
The main screen displays a dart board in the centre with score boards on left and right. The board on the left is for player one and the board on the right for player two. The flashing rectangle (lower half of the screen) and the darts (top of the screen) indicate which player is to fire.
A line is drawn across the bottom of the screen and when completed, is erased and then redrawn until any of the keys from 'B' to 'space' are pressed. Where this line stops will indicate the 'y' co-ordindate. A line is the drawn up the left hand side of the board. Again, when any of the keys between 'B' and 'space' are pressed, this indicates the 'x' co-ordinate. You are thus able to plot the exact pixel of the dart board.
The dart will appear on the board where plotted. When this has disappeared, the score will be shown in the rectangle at the bottom of the screen. The rectangle at the top of the screen indicates how many darts are left. When all three darts have been fired, the score will appear on the score board. If a two player game, then your opponent now has his turn.
1. ONE PLAYER GAME
This is a game of '501', finishing on a double or bull. Your score is the number of darts needed to finish the game. The screen will the display whether or not your score has been good enough to allow you to enter the league (i.e. a score of 20 or less).
In the league there are 8 players (including yourself). You play seven games in the season. Aftre each game your score, along with those of the other 7 players, is displayed on the results chart. The league table is then plotted in order of merit. Your aim is to finish top of the league at the end of seven games.
The league champion has the honour of entering the Spectrum World Darts Championship. This consists of four rounds, each round consisting of one game. Being the only amateur in the competition, you have the advantage of playing first in each game. The section is a knock-out competition.
2. TWO PLAYER GAME
A choice is given for the initial number, i.e. 101, 301 or 501. A choice is also available for the number of games that constitute a match, i.e. 1, 3 or 5. Player one will play first in games 1, 3 and 5. Each player takes it in turn to throw three darts until one player reaches zero by scoring a double or bull. If the score reaches less than zero, then the player has 'bust' and his turn ends and his score for that turn equals none. At the end of a game the score board (a separate screen) indicates the number of games won by each player, plus at the end of each match, a world raiting for the winning player.
3. ROUND THE BOARD
This is either a 1 or 2 player gayme. It provides a good practise plus an alternative game. It is called 'Round the Board'. You must go round the board from 1 to 20 an finish on a bull or outer.
Another 2 player game. Numbers 1 - 15 represent the red balls and 16 - bull, the colours. In order to pot a red, you must place 3 darts in that number. You then nominate a colour and need three darts in that colour to score.
